Structural Oak
Oak is not just beautiful, it is the (literal) backbone of traditional period construction. Many people believe that oak is no longer suitable in that way though. That a solid timber frame is insufficient to support modern, large structures. Much to the contrary, though. Oak framing is not just fashionable, it is extremely effective, and generally a much better solution than steel framing disguised by oaken accents.

Strong and stable by design, an oak frame carries its load effortlessly, without the need for interior load-bearing walls. This allows for beautiful open plan spaces, and especially for high or vaulted ceilings.
Whilst oak framing is a centuries old construction method, it is extremely adaptable to modern designs. Better still, it is both sustainable and energy efficient, with a much smaller carbon footprint than steel frame structures. Brickwork is tough and durable, but it is continuously exposed to the elements. The acidity of the UK’s rain is higher now than it ever was when many of these buildings were constructed. That means that over time the mortar that holds the bricks together and even the bricks themselves will start to wear and crumble.
Even the best brick wall will fall eventually if a building isn’t properly maintained. Every brick building should be inspected regularly by an expert, and any flaws spotted have to be dealt with quickly, before they lead to bigger problems. Most of all, it is important to address the causes of decay, not just the symptoms. That is why you need a true expert in period brickwork and masonry, not just any builder with a trowel.

We can source and supply trusses to almost any required specification. We may do this by working alongside a major truss supplier, or by sourcing completely bespoke work if necessary.
